I chose the Vanguard grad program because I was looking to learn more about theology in an environment that was safe and with like-minded people … who are willing to challenge you and help you grow.

The core courses within the M.A. in Theology program embody specific, foundational readings, dialogue and research/writing instruction for each of the three areas of the degree: Biblical Studies, Theology and Leadership. The elective courses provide a broad base of interpretive skills in biblical interpretation, an understanding of Christian theology, and an introduction to the ministry and mission of the Christian church. The elective courses can be distributed between the three areas of study or focused on any one area.

Our theology program is offered in two formats:

  • On Campus: Students enroll in two 8-week classes (3 units each) one night a week throughout the semester and a 1-unit Saturday class.
  • Live Online: Students enroll in two 8-week classes (3 units each) one night a week throughout the semester and a 1-unit Saturday class. Students engage in a variety of online learning activities, including extensive reading and reflection, a live online format with faculty and other students, threaded discussions, and independent research.

Upon completion of the M.A. in Theology program, you will be prepared to:

  • Engage in theological reflection by examining classical topics in light of their historical developments and contextual challenges
  • Interpret Scripture and develop a strong biblical theology
